Front Range Single Tracks: The Best Single-Track Trails Near Denver & Boulder
Published in Paperback by Fat Tire Pr (March, 1995)
Author: Tom Barnhart
Average review score:

suspect trail rating system
This is a good book as far as informing you where the trails along the front-range are. However, his rating system is suspect. First off you just can't rate mountain biking trails with 3 tires, and this fool thinks every trail is simple. Beginners beware some of the trails he rates as easy are pretty darn hard. 3 stars because the direction to the trail heads is excellent.

Great guide for Denver and front range Mountain Bike rides
Though my husband is an avid Mtn. Biker, I am fairly new at the sport and less experienced. We have been using this book as I gain skills taking me from beginner to advanced trails. The book is nice and small and should fit in your camel back. I would recommend this to anyone living in the area, or planning to vacation in Beautiful Colorado!

Colorado Front Range Bouldering Fort Collins, Vol. 1
Published in Paperback by Falcon Publishing Company (May, 1995)
Author: Bob Horan
Average review score:

Bad topos and uses outdated B system
This book is simply out of date. Horan's guide has descriptions like "I did some problem on this face in 1986". Wow, what research. His 'Best of Boulder Bouldering' is a dramatic improvement. Benningfield's 'Colorado Bouldering' guide is better with some photos of boulders and more problems. But even that guide is quickly becoming out of date.

Bob knows his stuff
Bob Horan's guide books are funky and original. He has been a dedicated Front Range boulderer for many years and he's taken the time to visit these areas repeatedly with different partners to insure accuracy of grading, problem description, etc. I'd like to see him change what he calls "Meditation Boulder" at Rotary Park back to its original name (Biscuit Rock) but other than that, he's done a fine job.

Books With True Character
The Colorado Front Range Bouldering Series is the first of its kind in the world, maps are hand drawn and incredibly entertaining unlike the simple processed digitized guides seen today. The book has accurracy and overviews of all areas involved unlike the Copy Cat book Colorado Bouldering. This book is the best value on the market for bouldering within the Fort Collins Area. I truely enjoy having it in my almost 500 climbing guide collection. In years to come these hand drawn books will be of more value than the others that follow.

Front Range Top Ropes
Published in Paperback by Sharp End Pub (January, 1901)
Author: Fred Knapp
Average review score:

Good reference
It is impossible to have a book describing every toprope route on Colorado's frontrange, Knapp does a pretty good job of sending the reader to a little bit of everything. The book seems to concentrate on the Denver/Golden area, especially CastleWood Canyon, but has enough of the other areas on the front range to make you want to buy a more detailed guidebook.

If you are new to climbing along the front range, this is a pretty good book to get you to the rock.

Birding the Front Range, a Guide to Seasonal Highlights
Published in Paperback by Willow Pr (01 May, 1995)
Author: Robert Folzenlogen
Average review score:

A reader from the high plains of Colorado
The description is a little misleading. This book does have information concerning the habitats in Colorado but within easy access from Denver and Colorado Springs and, in my opinion, does not accurately represent the front range. It gives locations of where birds were spotted but as a beginning bird watcher I am more interested in identifying the birds. There are no descriptions or photos of the types of birds. There are some photos but most appear to be scenic in nature and except for the front cover photo, they're all black and white.
